Principal's MESSAGE (January 21, 2024)
Dear REDFISH Families,
Part of me is already missing the colder temperatures and dry snow of the past week. We certainly enjoyed the winter wonderland at REDFISH...
Here are some REDFISH-related bits, bytes, updates, and housekeeping items as we wrap-up another school week and look ahead to the next…
SCHOOL ENROLMENT (2024/2025)
If you (or a friend or a relative) are planning to register a child in kindergarten at REDFISH for the 2024/2025 school year, and you haven’t already reached out or submitted a registration form, please email mark.bonikowsky@sd8.bc.ca ASAP to let us know. Similarly, please let us know if you anticipate any other enrolments or withdrawals for the 2024/2025 school year. Thank you!
To further promote the themes of understanding, empathy, and respect leading into International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, we kicked off this past school week with a school-wide assembly. Heading out the assembly, students considered ways they could contribute to a more peaceful world through their own spheres of influence. The ‘PEACE pledge’ doves they created will be combined with others from across the district to create a visual installment representing SD8’s commitment to foster safe, inclusive, and culturally sensitive learning environments.
REDFISH Elementary took part in winter activities across three different venues on Friday morning… the NDCC ice rink… the NDYC indoor skatepark… and Nelson Soccer Club’s indoor soccer arena. Great times were enjoyed at each locale! Thank you to our community partners and school volunteers who supported our adventures.
TIE-DYE FUNDRAISER (HOMEROOM 5)
Homeroom 5 (GR5/6 | Ms. Hodgson) at REDFISH is running a TIE-DYE fundraiser this month to support its year-end class trip. Orders are due by THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 2024. Please see the order form attached to the parent email for more details.
WEST COAST SEEDS FUNDRAISER (RPAC)
Please see info below (and attached to the parent email) from your RPAC regarding a REDFISH Elementary fundraising opportunity through West Coast Seeds…
Hi Redfish Community!
This year we are running a fundraiser with West Coast Seeds for the purpose of raising funds for all classrooms as well as our school garden. We chose this fundraiser because we would like to promote a program that is environmentally friendly and promotes growing food.
Every packet you purchase will earn 40% for REDFISH Elementary School. West Coast Seeds provides Canada No 1 seeds that are untreated and non-GMO which means that they promote sustainability. They have provided a wide range of their bestselling vegetables, herbs, and flowers to offer a little something for everyone.
All seeds can be ordered on the fundraising site. Please ensure that you order from this site only. Otherwise, we will not earn the 40%. When you are ready to order, make your choices and add to your cart. Once you have completed your order, find our organization (i.e. ‘Redfish School’) in the dropdown menu. Add in your details so that we can contact you when the orders are ready for pick up.
Please make sure to order by Friday January 26, 2024 to avoid disappointment.
Thank you in advance for your support!
