It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as Redfish's new Grade 4,5,6 teacher. I am thrilled to be joining this community-based school and to support the growth and development of a strong intermediate program.
I am a passionate educator with a specific interest in the middle years. I began my career in outdoor education, designing and leading youth leadership programs. I love to be outside with my students, connecting learning to the land we share and care for. My approach to teaching is through imagination and to provide experiences that lead to inquiry and exploration. I use storytelling to weave in new material and concepts and integrate movement, creativity and beauty into all that my class takes on.
I have an B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of British Columbia, with a focus on Education in relation to Class, Gender and Ethnicity. I received my B.Ed at the University of Toronto, OISE in 2008, and since then have received my Waldorf Teacher Training through mentorship work and three summer intensives at the Rudolf Steiner Collage. I have seven years of teaching experience across diverse learning communities. Most recently I was the Class 4 and then 5 teacher at the Nelson Waldorf School.
Away from teaching, I am a mother of two beautiful children and live in Mountain Station in a house my partner and I built. I love to camp, bike, hike, cross-country ski, knit and paint.
I am looking forward to building relationships with the students, staff and parents at Redfish. I believe that clear communication and strong partnerships between teachers and parents is essential for enabling student success; I see a school as a community and work to make it inclusive and supportive.
