Dear REDFISH Families,

I hope you all enjoyed this crisp, fall Saturday! Here are some important announcements and bits of information as we gear-up for our final three weeks of school before winter break…

WRITTEN LEARNING UPDATES

Written learning updates for first term will be uploaded to the MyED Parent Portal on Monday, November 27. For this term, we will also be sending home a paper copy of your child’s written learning update along with their self-reflection and goal-setting page which focused on the BC Curriculum Core Competency of COMMUNICATION. Please look out for those documents on Monday.

Looking much farther ahead to our next set of written learning updates on March 8, 2024, we plan to go paperless and have parents login through the MyED Parent Portal to view the written learning updates online.

PARENT CONSENT FORMS (X3)

We have only a few families left to complete the following school district consent forms through the link sent out via the parent email

  1. Local Neighbourhood Excursion Consent FORM
  2. FIPPA Consent FORM
  3. Media + Website Consent FORM

… If you have not already done so, please take a minute or two this weekend to complete the forms. The REDFISH school office will follow up individually with families who have not completed the forms by next week.

REDFISH PAC MEETING (Wednesday, November 29, 2023 @ 6:30 PM)

Your REDFISH Parent Advisory Council (RPAC) has scheduled its next parent meeting for this WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 29 at 6:30 PM. This meeting will take place virtually over Google Meet via the link sent out to parents via email.  Please email RPAC at redfishpac@gmail.com for help if needed. Hope to see you there!

2023 SCHOOL-AGED CHILD CARE DEMAND SURVEY

Please see the separate email sent out regarding this online survey from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

MIDDLE YEARS DEVELOPMENT INSTRUMENT (MDI)

Grade 4 students across SD8 are scheduled to take part in the MDI survey between January 15 – March 15. The MDI is designed to provide a holistic picture of how children in the middle years are doing at school, at home, and in their community across five key dimensions: Social and Emotional Development, Physical Health and Well-Being, Connectedness, Use of Out-of-School Time, and School Experiences.

Please see the separate email sent out to families of Grade 4 students regarding the MDI for further details.

INCLEMENT WEATHER (OUTDOOR BREAKS)

As we head towards winter and more inclement weather, please continue to ensure that your children are prepared to be out in the elements for recess and lunch breaks… with toques, gloves, warm coats, and appropriate footwear.

HEALTHY SNACKS PROGRAM

As mentioned earlier in the fall, REDFISH makes available fresh fruit, vegetables, and other nutritious snacks to students who do not have consistent access to these types of foods. REDFISH would like to extend a big ‘thank you’ to our EA, Mrs. DONNELLY, for her help in ensuring these healthy snacks are available on a daily basis during break times to students in need.

If your child does not have access to nutritious snacks on a regular basis, please email mark.bonikowsky@sd8.bc.ca so we can help ensure they have access while at school.

PROCTER COMMUNITY POTLUCK + TALENT SHOW

The Procter Community Society is hosting a community potluck and talent show on Saturday, December 16.
