Principal's MESSAGE (February 15, 2024)

Dear REDFISH Families,

On Wednesday, REDFISH teachers turned a blind eye to the age-old school embargo on passing notes in class and instead built in space and time for students to share tiny notes of encouragement with one another in honour of Valentine’s Day. Much to my surprise, some of these notes even made their way to the PRINCIPAL's OFFICE!?

It is interesting how something so seemingly small and simple can have such a big impact. The activity offered a timely reminder of the power small acts of kindness hold to nudge us towards the good… towards better versions of ourselves… towards a brighter vision and version of our world… and so on. It is an ongoing theme that we continue to explore and wrestle with as a school family this year in our work with one another… across classrooms and throughout the school grounds. This theme has also resonated throughout our contemplations on Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Thanksgiving Day, Remembrance Day, International Holocaust Awareness Day, Black History Month, etc.… and as we look ahead towards Pink Shirt Day on February 28, 2024.

Here are a couple of highlights and heads-ups as we sign off on another fun-filled week at REDFISH and look ahead to a second, consecutive four-day school week…

PANCAKES and PAJAMAS

REDFISH research shows that pajamas, stuffies, and pancakes do indeed make everything better. On Wednesday, the REDFISH staff went above and beyond to provide students with an afternoon to remember. Pajama clad students were treated to a lunch of hot-off-the-griddle pancakes, homemade whipping cream, and fresh fruit followed by an afternoon of community-building station games in REDFISH colour teams. Thanks again to all the REDFISH staff for making this happen!

NO SCHOOL (FEBRUARY 16+19, 2024)

Please note that there is no school for students on Friday, February 16, 2024 (i.e. PRO-D Day) and Monday, February 19, 2024 (i.e. Family Day). We hope that REDFISH families will be able to make room for some quality family time together over the long weekend!
