Redfish Elementary is a small rural school set between the West Arm of Kootenay Lake and Kokanee Glacier Park. We are 23 km east of Nelson along Hwy 3A. Redfish is a Kindergarten to Grade seven school with about 110 students. Our school goals are centered on outdoor education and place conscious learning as well as learning through story-telling.

Our students and teachers have written a local plant guide and we are a certified WILD school.    We have a timber frame outdoor classroom adjacent to an active kokanee salmon spawning channel and we are a 3 minute walk from Kootenay Lake.

We are beautifully supported by our parent and wider community and have a very active PAC. 

We have a chef run hot lunch programme and there are after school programmes most days.

Our school sits on 5 acres, with large fields and a sledding hill, three play structures and 'Nature's Lego,' an area of sticks and stones where all kinds of worlds are created.

Our seniour class is working hard at designing and creating a big garden.

Our students get to have cross country ski lessons, golf lessons and swim lessons every year.  They get to choose from gymnastics, climbing wall, skating, parkour or Whitewater skiing or snowboarding in the winter.  

We have a strong focus on literacy and numeracy, with a co-teaching model so that we are aligned in our instruction.  

Our staff are focusing on the literacy work of Adrienne Gear, numeracy approach of Carole Fullarton and inclusion model of Shelley Moore.
