Swim lessons, Golf Lessons, Beach Clean Up, Youth Pow Wow and more!

Hello Redfish Families,

Below and attached are some important notices for the upcoming weeks so I ask you to read carefully and to the end.

A huge thank you to all of those adding to the after school learning opportunities for Redfish families.  Baseball is amazing – so many children!  And please note that our office will accept any forms for afterschool events and the organizers can just pick up the envelope in the office.    Also thank you to all of the families who came in to celebrate their child’s learning over the last week.

The grade 4/5s are fundraising for their trip to Fort Steele.  Please see the office for a Georama Basket and Patio Planter Order form.  The turnaround is quick – April 25th at 9 AM.

You are welcome to bring your youngers to Candy Bones Theatre Performance Tuesday at 8:30.

Beach Clean Up: On Wednesday, April 24th after lunch we will be walking to various areas around our school for a big spring cleanup as one way to celebrate Earth Day.   We will not be sending home a specific permission form for this, as we are walking, not taking the bus.  Please let your child’s teacher know if you’d like to join us, as we always love parents along on outings.

The grade 4/5s will go to the Harrop Proctor Ferry Landing.
The grade 3/4s will go to the beach at the end of Bryan Road.
The grade 1/2s will go to the spawning channel and forest.
The K/1s go all around our great big school yard.

Please send your child with gardening gloves or any other type of gloves for this day.  We will avoid using garbage bags as this is just more plastic, so we will use buckets to collect the bits we find.  If you have ice cream buckets with lids that you could lend us, please send some along on Wednesday.

Golf: We are starting our 2 sessions for grades 1-5 at the Balfour Golf Course.  Craig from the golf course will be offering extra after school sessions for really keen students in grades 3-5 later in May.

Pow Wow: The grade 4s and 5s are going to the 9th Annual Youth Pow Wow in Creston on Friday, May 17th.  Please see the poster on the district site if you would like to bring your child to the Youth Pow Wow.  We may have a bit of extra room on the bus for children and parents from other classes.  See Victoria if you are interested in joining the 4s and 5s for this event.

Swimming lessons: Your child may have let you know that the structure for swimming lessons has changed as we had a great presentation from one of the coaches at our School Wide Important Meeting last week.    As it takes us a bit to place each student in the appropriate level lesson, we will ask that you bring those back by May 10.

Finally, here is where you can find information on the grade 10-12 Redesigned Curriculum: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/education/kindergarten-to-grade-12/support/graduation/graduation-implementation-guide.pdf  It also has lots on the framework for k-12.  I know it is a long way off, but I am someone who likes to know what is ahead so I can prepare, and you may be too.

Thank you for reading to the end.  As always, let me know if you have any questions.

Happy Easter Weekend!

Victoria
